Mastery
Mastery explores the delicate balance between control and surrender, examining how emotions - whether anger, fear, desire, or doubt - can dictate our actions if left unchecked. To master the self is not to suppress emotion, but to hold it without being held by it, to feel deeply yet remain sovereign over one’s response.
Layered hues of reds evoke intensity, passion, and impulse - expressions of raw feeling that surge and recede in endless motion. Blue, by contrast, introduces stability and discipline, offering a counterpoint to emotion’s volatility. As these forces interact, violet emerges - not simply as a blending of colours, but as a visual embodiment of mastery itself. Traditionally associated with wisdom and transformation, violet symbolises the alchemy of emotion into understanding, reaction into choice.
Executed in dyed resins on mirrored surfaces, Mastery shifts and refracts as the viewer moves, inviting contemplation on the evolving nature of self-regulation. The piece does not advocate detachment but rather the ability to exist fully within one’s emotions without being ruled by them. True mastery, it suggests, is not about silencing feeling, but about holding it with intention - transforming sensation into sovereignty.
